Accountability

I know farmers and ranchers are some of the hardest working people in the country. However if you think about it they are some of the biggest gamblers going. Pardon the pun, but they bet the farm that they are going to get the moon and stars to align and that their products (crops/animals) are going to grow and they are going to make a profit when it comes time to sell.

Never mind that the weather may screw them (too dry, too wet, too cold, too hot, etc) or that their animals may get sick and require expensive drugs and or treatments and that those who raise beef are some of the biggest gamblers going. Never mind the time and money spent to vaccinate against certain diseases or food supplements to get the animals to grow/gain weight. Never mind the predators or thieves that may kill/steal their investments. Never mind the activists/politicians that will sell them down the road for their own profits or political gains.

So they essentially gamble for a living. Some years they win, some years they lose, and some years they break even. Either way it is a stressful life and some families have been doing it for generations. Now some of these folks do it because they love it and would not have it any other way. Some I think do it because they don’t know anything different or don’t want to know anything different. Some do it for the romance of being out in nature and thinking they are feeding the masses. They all have their reasons. God Bless them for growing the things we all need to live.

Well this year they are getting screwed by the Orange turd. Sadly, I am not shedding many tears for them. The reason for that is there has to be some accountability. The vast majority of the farming/ranching community supported/voted for the asshole (both times). So you get what you sow. If this was during his first administration I would feel a little bit sorry for them, but this go around I am saying sorry and Fuck you. Now that is sad and truly unchristian of me and to be honest short sited. Because I and the rest of us are going to suffer for it. However, at some point enough has to be enough.

I am also worried about the next generations. In the past month I know of several people (four and counting) where the parents of grown ass adults have bought their grown kids a house for them to live in. Now I don’t know all the details around all of these situations and I don’t begrudge them doing this. I am sure there all kinds of reasons/justifications for doing this. We all want our family members to be living comfortably. However, I am concerned that some of these parents are enabling their offspring and the offspring don’t have an appreciation or sense of what it should take to have a place of their own. No accountability.

I know me personally could not do this. I would prefer to be homeless on the street, as to have my parents buy a home for me. They made enough sacrifices getting me to adulthood that I could not accept them buying me a home.

Jennifer and I worked and saved to make sure this never happened. Like I have said before we did not have a pot to piss in when we got married and both of our parents worked and sacrificed to get us started but once we started we were on our own, and they cut the strings and let us go out into the world to sink or swim. Fortunately for us, we swam and did just fine. We were not the Rockefeller’s but we did just fine and lived a good life. Did we make sacrifices, yes we did, but they paled in comparison to so many others.

Anyway I am just concerned that these next generations are so enabled and have little to no accountability for living their own lives and that today’s parents don’t cut the strings and let their offspring start living their own lives.

I don’t know the answer to any of this, other than we need to send this current administration packing and I hope and pray that come November we get that process started. Maybe this time the farmers and ranchers will open their eyes and ears and educate themselves on who they are voting for.

In the meantime, I will be researching recipes for horse/dog/ rat and cat, because at the rate we are going it may be what we will all be eating in the future. Knowing how to prepare and cook it may come in handy.
