Well actually it was a vegetable dinner, but that just doesn't sound as snappy.
After yesterday's post and based on the recommendations from a couple of folks, I ran to the store and got some broth. I brought a variety (vegetable, beef and chicken) so she could have some choices. When I got back to the house, I asked her which one she would like to try first. She chose the vegetable. I heated up about a 1/2 of a coffee cup of the broth.
I have to be honest as it was warming up, I was praying very hard that this would work and that she would be able to start getting some nutrients into her. I have been very concerned about the lack of nutrients she has been getting and I know some (not all) of the weakness/fatigue she is experiencing is because of this.
When she started drinking it and she kept drinking it. I wanted to scream and jump up and down for joy. Amazing how the smallest/simplest things can make you very happy. I guess this must be what parents feel like when their kids do their firsts (first crawl, first steps, first swear word, etc.).
We have our first little victory on this journey. I know it's not much, but it sure felt like a world championship to me.
Just before she called it a night she had another 1/3 coffee cup of the broth, so folks I am considering that a winning streak and am praying that streak continues.
Crazy day today (8/7/2023) . Started the day with a 1/2 cup of broth (so streak is intact). Go the water softener folks lined up to come look at water softener on August 15. Then we had an educational telephone call with her Nurse Navigator to discuss her upcoming Chemotherapy. Lots of stuff to digest and prepare for.
She was supposed to have three drugs as part of her Chemotherapy. Two were approved by the insurance company and one was denied. So, spent time trying to get answers from the insurance company on that. Was told that the insurance company doctors feel that drug was not medically necessary and would not provide any benefit for her cancer. It can be reversed if the Oncologist can show them studies that say this works and have a peer-to-peer discussion about it. Yeah, these Oncologist and their staffs just have a ton of time on their hands to conduct all of that.
In case you were wondering, the disapproved drug just happens to be the most expensive drug in the suite she is supposed to get (Hmm, I am calling Bullshit) and not stopping fighting the battle on that.
Also, the Oncologist ordered an MRI of her Brain and additional CT scans of her Thorax and Pelvis. So, I called the scheduling department to get those scheduled. Amazingly, they had an opening for the MRI today at 4:00 p.m.!
We got in the car and drove up and actually were going to be about 2 hours early (There is road construction that you just can't account for. especially in the afternoon). Today of course we flew thru with no delay.
As we are coming out the Gorge, we got a voicemail from the MRI Tech wanting to know if we could come in early. Why yes, we can! I think Jennifer would have kissed him (an maybe she did when they went back to do the test). So, we got that done.
Turns out she does in fact have a brain; I know many of you have been questioning that ever since she agreed to marry me. Fortunately, the MRI looked good, and we will proceed ahead with the Chemo on Wednesday, barring any bad lab results, which they will do the day of Chemo.
She is absolutely whipped tonight. Thankfully she has a day of rest tomorrow, before the Chemo. She said she does not care if they get her an audience with the King of England, she isn't doing shit tomorrow.
Keep the prayers and good vibes coming our way we greatly appreciate them.
Joe. Praying the food train continues and she becomes stronger. Thank you for the updates.
So glad broth works! Yay! Huge win. Rest well today, Jen! Love you!
