Stuff She Is Missing

These last few weeks there has been activities that Jennifer would have really enjoyed. Our Bocce Club had a tournament and I think she would have enjoyed playing in it. These types of events were normally not her thing. I have mentioned before that “team sports” were not her thing. She was more a individualist, but for whatever reason she did like playing Bocce.
She had her unique way of measuring who was closest. She would use her feet, instead of getting the measuring tape. She was pretty accurate. I had to laugh because I saw one of the players use her foot method during the tournament, which made me smile and gave me a sense that she was watching from Heaven.
This week I am going to throw a Saint Patrick’s day party. I will be cooking up some Corned Beef and Cabbage, Carrots, and Potatoes along with some Irish Soda bread that Elaine and Jim are going to bring.
I took a trip down to Vegas last Thursday to pick up the corned beef and some other items that I knew I could get cheaper there. Of course throw in the high gas price, probably ended up being a wash. It was a very nice day for a drive. Allen joined me for the trip, he had a couple of tests he needed to have done at the VA, so we stopped there.
I was very impressed with the VA facility. They were very efficient. We were in and out, I was shocked how fast they got Allen in and out. I think it took longer for us to walk to and from the car than it took for the tests.
Then we went over to Elaine and Jim’s and picked up their Instapot that I will be using on Tuesday for some of the Corned Beef, cabbage and potatoes. Allen and I had a nice short visit and the hit the road hitting Trader Joe’s, Costco, Total Wine, and Winco and then headed back to Mesquite. Jennifer would have enjoyed the day. Jim and Elaine are coming up for the party, but they can’t come until just before the party because of some appointments they have, so I needed the Instapot early.
I have been busy getting the house ready for the party, she would not have enjoyed that. She enjoyed the parties but not getting ready for them. It is interesting our families were a little different on the entertaining front. My family always had lots of gatherings and parties. Jennifer’s family not so much. Although in our adult years when her family did get together it was like a party with seven kids and their spouses and their kids, the head count would grow.
I guess I have more of my Mom and Dad in me than I thought. I have had more parties here than we did in all of the other locations we lived in. We had a couple of holiday parties when we lived in Houston, but really did not have many parties outside of that. The one thing I did not inherit is there showing up for events late or just in time. I am early for events, that used to drive Jennifer a little nuts, but I absolutely hate being late. My parents will be late for their funerals. Used to be a joke back home there was two times Regular time and Sologub time and Sologub time was 30 minutes behind regular time.
Also March Madness is starting. I am doing the “What’s A Bracket” challenge for the Dysinger/Sologub family members. This year I will also be doing the Women’s bracket. Jennifer would have wanted that, so I am doing that as well. Stayed up way to late last night getting that all set up. However we are ready to go.
Well, enough for now, got too much stuff to do.
