Party At The End Of The World

As I have discussed, Jennifer's and my musical tastes differed. However there was one artist that Jennifer and I both liked and we could belt out a lot of his songs if we were together and that was Jimmy Buffet. The neighbors would probably know when the Sologubs had a Buffet tune playing, because the dogs would be howling or hiding trying to get away from the noise that was killing their hearing. People who saw us singing in the car would probably shake their heads and be saying, "Bless their hearts, those people must be special".

Sadly, I saw this morning that Jimmy has also passed away. The first thing I thought when I read this is well hopefully Jennifer is getting to see him in concert finally.

I would not categorize Jennifer and I as hard core Parrotheads, but we do have most of his albums and we spent a decent amount of money at Margaritavilles around the country over the years. We both enjoyed Jimmy's music but we did differ in that as well. I preferred his earlier works while Jennifer enjoyed his latter works more than I did. It was his earlier works ( Cheeseburger in Paradise, Pencil Thin Mustache, Brand New Country Star, West Nashville Ballroom Gowns, and of course God's own drunk). that we would belt out together.

We never did get to see him in concert. Several of Jennifer's siblings got to see him multiple times. Anyway, I hope they are having one Hell of a Party End of the World and that God has that Still fired up and purring away.

This news also got me to thinking of concerts Jennifer and I did go to. Jennifer and I were not a big concert fans, because at concerts the artists will often change the lyrics or god for bid get on stage and say well we are going to playing the songs from our newest album that we released yesterday and it's stuff you never heard and may not like. There were a couple of artists we saw that did not do that. They were REO Speedwagon, George Strait, Hank Williams Junior. Jennifer and I were of the opinion that if we were paying money to see a artist we wanted to hear the music that made us buy the ticket to the damn show in the first place.

I also had a good chuckle this morning when I recalled one of the Hank Williams Jr concerts. We actually took Jennifer's Mom and Dad to the one of his concerts. This just demonstrated that Jennifer had her parents wrapped around her little finger. Anyway, it was when we were living in Lafayette, La the first time so it was the early 1990's. We already had tickets to the concert with some friends before we knew Mick and Rose were coming to visit us. So Jennifer decide she would get her folks tickets as well. The problem was we could not get seated anywhere close together. But her folks said they were game (again proving the baby of the family can get anything they want) and could sit wherever the tickets were. So we get them to their seats and we go to ours with our friends. I can't remember who the opening act was, but when Hank comes out, they were playing loud. The roof was blowing off the Cajun Dome. So I decide to go check on Mick and Rose about 1/4 of the way into the concert and they were sitting in their seats with their hands over their ears and I am sure praying that it would get over quickly. Sadly that concert was one where Hank Jr "fell of the wagon" and got more than a little hammered and actually was taking off his clothes at the end of the concert. However Mick and Rose were good sports about it all, but I know they were glad when that evening was over.

Jennifer and I were also at the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill concert in Louisiana where Tim lost a ring off his finger and some women were supposedly groping him. He thought a lady was trying to steal his ring. Anyway they temporarily stopped the concert and got Tim his ring back and then Faith Hill came out and threatened to kick the ass of any woman that was groping her husband. So it was kind of a awkward concert. I do remember the opening act for that concert. It was a very young Taylor Swift.

Anyway enough concert story's. We have attended some good one, but we also attended some stinkers over the years. Condolences to Jimmy Buffet and his family and the millions of hardcore Parrot Heads around the world. Hopefully the Cheesburgers in Paradise are tasty and don't have any Mayo in them. Jennifer hated Mayonaise, but that's a story for a different post.

I remember visiting you guys when I was at the American Speech and Language convention in New Orleans. We had dinner followed by a stop at Magaritaville. Fun time! I hope Jennifer and Jimmy are having a great time in a better place. 😉
