Weird Day

Today was a weird day. I feel like I spun my wheels most of the day. I am trying to make sure I have everything gathered up and organized for the trip to Butte and spent the day puttering around the house getting stuff ready for that.
I took the time to do some paper shredding. Jennifer liked to keep all of our receipts from credit card transactions in Ziplock bags. Just in case we needed to dispute a charge or needed to return something then she would have the receipt. Her system worked well over the years, but she would let the bags accumulate and then we would spend the better part of a day shredding. So did some of that today.
I did some laundry and I got rid of most of her unused Medications today. Out Xpress Scripts pharmacy sent me a little bag that had activated Charcoal in it. You put the unused pills in the and filled it halfway with water and let it sit for a bit and then sealed the bag and shook it up and then place it in the trash. Supposedly the charcoal makes the medications inactive and safe for disposal. I then worked on getting the kitchen ready for the backsplash that is going to be installed next week on Monday and Tuesday.
This project was one that Jennifer and I (more Jennifer than me) agonized over since we moved in. She was always looking for the just the right tile and we looked at several styles, types etc. We had sample tiles from various places, she had even bought some cheap dollar store stick on type tiles just to see what the patterns would look like She finally found a tile she liked at Lowes in May of this year. We purchased it but we knew we were going to be going to Montana for the summer so decided to schedule the job for late September, when we would be back in Mesquite.
One of the funny things about us is that we could pick out a house pretty damn quick but picking out things to do inside the home could take us forever. Don't even get me started on picking out a car. That could take us forever. For the most part we were very likeminded on the house buying front.
I think we kind of drove some of our realtors a little crazy over the years. We would pull up to a home and we may or may not make it in the front door. For example, one house in Pittsburgh the gal pulled up to the house and did not even have a chance to shut the car off before we told her next. There were a couple that we just made it in the front door and just turned around and walked out. Then there were others that were just unique or interesting enough that we would have to walk around it but knew there was no way in hell we were going to consider buying it.
I am saddened that we did not get to do a few of the things that Jennifer wanted done before she passed. Our house is very white inside, she was working on picking colors to paint some of the walls in the house and I will get that done eventually. For a while our house looked the display rack at Sherwin Williams. I think she had pretty much every shade of gray or grayish paint sample chips they offered.
I know it is crazy, but I want this backsplash done while her remains are still here with me. She had worked hard on it, and it will give me some comfort knowing her remains were here when it was finally completed. Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that we don't run into any complications, so we can get to Butte in a timely fashion.
I went to dinner with our friend Allen tonight. He is home alone, while his wife Margot went to visit their daughter. We had a nice dinner.
I thought about going to go play Pickleball after our dinner, but there is a wildfire South of us (Near Lake Mead) that brought a lot of smoke and ash into Mesquite tonight. When Allen and I came out from dinner my car was covered in ash. Made me think I was back in Montana during wildfire season. It was a beautiful sunset tonight because of the smoke, but I decided it probably was not the best idea to be playing activities in that kind of environment. So, I stayed home and puttered around some more.
