Very Nice Weekend

It has been a very nice weekend so far. I know it is a long weekend for the working folk but just another weekend for us retired folks. However it has been a good one so far.

The Benner Clan pulled into town around 1:00 pm yesterday. We got everyone settled into their Sleeping areas. The adults sat around and visited for a bit and Lilly and Bode worked on a sign to display during the game. Jim and Elaine got checked into their hotel and then we took off for St George.

We went to dinner at the Kayenta Art Village near Ivans Utah. The restaurant is called Xetava and it is a nice atmosphere. This was a celebration of Ryan’s 46th birthday. I had a very tasty burger special they had. It was called the “Rattler” it was loaded with some roasted peppers, purple cabbage coleslaw and a spicy mayonnaise and fried onion strips. Jim and Elaine had purchased some gift certificates for the restaurant at a silent auction for a fundraiser at the kids Catholic school in Vegas and so we got to use them because they were about to expire.

Then we took the kids to a Adventure park to work off some energy. The Ryan Benner family rode the bumper boats and had a fun time spraying and bumping each other. The kids had a fun time trying to spray us observers. They played some video games and then we went to the stadium.

Utah Tech has a nice little stadium, but it was a very toasty evening. At one point it looked like we might get some rain, but it went around us and/or the rain evaporated before it got to us. There was a brief little point where we got some breeze but that died out and it stayed pretty warm and dead calm even after the sun went down. It was a 8 pm start time so we were hoping that once it got dark it would cool down, but it did not.

Below is a picture of Bode with the sign. Lilly is quite the artist. He was so hoping to get Touchdown Tommy’s autograph but unfortunately that did not happen, but it was not for a lack of trying. It was just not to be last night. He was not able to get close enough to Tommy where he could have maybe gotten it. Also unfortunately Tommy suffered a injury late in the game. We are not sure if it was an injury or cramping. We are praying it was cramping. Either way he had to leave the game.

The game was pretty much a blowout. I think the Trailblazers did not get a first down until late in the 4th quarter. They did finally score but I think the Bobcats got off their game when Tommy got hurt and let their guard down. It was one of those classic examples of leaving your star player in the game longer than they should have. They were up 31-0 when he had to leave the game. They really should have sat him in the second half.

If he had not gotten hurt I am sure Bode would have gotten his autograph. From what I understand from numerous people, Tommy (who is from Butte , for those not familiar with Bobcat Football) is nothing but a class act and just a down to earth good person. Kate says he is the “Cats Meow” and if Kate says that I take that to the bank.

This morning I cooked up a breakfast casserole and I had made a fruit salad. Jim had brought a tasty tomato soup cake and we had a nice relaxing breakfast. Then everyone got showed and loaded up and hit the road for Vegas. From what I heard from Elaine traffic was heavier than normal so the trip home was a little longer than normal.

I really appreciate them including me in this weekend. Moments like these are much appreciated, but they are also painful (mostly after they are over) because I know how much Jennifer would have enjoyed participating in them. I felt her presence (her voice and laugh) with us all day yesterday and this morning.

Well I better do something productive. So enough for today.

So glad you got to see the game. We were watching it on tv. Looked for you but didn't see you. Lynn C.
