Snow In June

Well the weather forecasters got it right! Snow flakes are falling in Elk Park this morning. Currently they are pretty weak flakes, as far as snowflakes go. It’s like they are trying to find their identity. Do they want to be a snow flake or a rain drop. They hit the ground before they can find their identity or determine what their pronouns are. Either way it is moisture and we will take it in whatever form it wants to come in.
Prior to getting this moisture it was looking like August instead of June, the grass in the fields was starting to fade into a light brown. It is amazing how much greener it has gotten just in the last 12 hours.
I think the local firework vendors must have been doing rain dances so that they could open and sell their wares. Yesterday was the first day they could open up for business in Butte. Now the bitching will start about all the noise and stupid shit people will do with the fireworks. Animals and war veterans will be having panic attacks with all the booms and bangs.
It always amazes me how much money people will waste on fireworks. I image that with all of dipshits tariffs the cost of them is going to be pretty high this year, but people will still buy them.
I saw a post yesterday where someone (believed to be teenagers) had vandalized some porta-potty’s around town. The pictures that were posted looked like they had used some high powered fireworks to essentially blow the units up. Very sad! Someone must have kept some fireworks from last year or they traveled to somewhere where they could get them.
I think if they catch the guilty parties, they need to get assigned to having to clean porta-ptty’s or camp ground rest rooms with a bucket and tooth brush. That will make them think twice about throwing a M-80 in porta-potty!
I have often told people that I have seen it snow on the 4th of July more than once. I guess it just showed up a little early this year. The forecast for this July 4 is supposed to be sunny and in the low 70’s. So we will see. Montana is one of the places in the world where you can get all 4 seasons in a day. In Elk Park you might get all 4 seasons in a hour.
Being here at the ranch without Dad is interesting, I now have his voice in my mind along with Jennifer’s. As I do certain things around the place, I can hear him telling me to do this or do that. Like when I mowed the yard the other day. I could hear him telling me to check the oil level on the mower before I fired it up (FYI - I complied with his request). It was full.
Checking oil levels was always high on his list of things to do before you started any piece of equipment. He would shake his head in disgust if you did not happen to do it.
Well I better try and do something productive. Maybe I will go check the oil in the snowplow truck. Just in case we need to fire it up later today. The odds look low. The moisture has switched back to rain drop form at the moment, but it always pays to be prepared.
