Not The News He Was Hoping For

Yesterday, my sister Colleen and I took my Dad to Missoula to see his knee surgeon about his knee. We were lucky in that it was a nice day and the roads were good both coming and going. The weather is supposed to start changing today.

We did get to go see my Dad's sister Betty before his appointment and were able to have a nice visit with her before we went to his appointment.

Unfortunately the news from the Doctor is not what my Dad was hoping for. There is basically nothing they can really do surgically to make the leg any better. He is going to have to live with learning how to use mechanical mobility devices to get around. Of course this is not what he wanted to hear, but that is the harsh reality. The Doctor told him some people minds go before their bodies and other people's bodies go before their minds. He is in the latter group. We all agreed that it is the better group to be in, if you had your choice. The Doctor shared that his mother is in the first group.

Anyway, we will be working to bring him back home as the rehab facility is really not going to accomplish much more and will be working on getting him better devices to get around.

So not the news any of us were hoping for and as such the ride home was pretty somber.

When we got home, the first thing I wanted to do was call her and fill her in. It really hurt realizing that was not going to happen. So added to the somber evening.

Oh well life goes on and all we can do is attack it head on and work on what we can control.
