Happy New Years to all that have been reading my blog. I hope you have a safe and joyous 2024. I really appreciate all the love and support that has been extended to me by both family and friends since Jennifer's passing.
I know I have expressed this before but doing this blog has helped me cope with her not being here. I cannot explain why and frankly I don't care why, it helps and that is all that matters to me.
For those that have been along for the ride, I greatly appreciate you taking time from your lives to read my drabble. There are days that it really yanks my guts out and gets me crying like a baby and other days it brings smiles to my face and a chuckle to my belly. Sometimes I will have both reactions while I am writing.
I had a nice dinner with Jeanne and Rob at Lydia's Supper club last evening. Had not been there in 6 plus years. Everything was good except for the sweet potato salad. It was no where as good as it used to be, but everything else was delicious.
I also ran into Paul and Kelly Eddy and their son Jack, who came in just before we left. It was nice seeing them.
I had a good tearful discussion and recap of the day with Jennifer on the drive home. I almost pulled into the cemetery (it's right across the street from Lydia's) to see her, but did not think a visit at 8:00 at night was probably the smart thing to do. Would have probably got reported to the cops.
Looked like the kids were having a ball lighting off fire works on the way home, lots of fireballs in the air as I drove up Woodville hill. So I am sure some dogs are going to need therapy tomorrow. Cindy said they were still going off in her area this morning.
When I got home and spent time with the folks. We had a adult beverage to kiss 2023 goodbye and watched the Packer and Vikings game.
Today the folks are watching the Rose Bowl parade. Jennifer liked to watch it, but it has never really been my thing. They are beautiful floats and amazing how all the floats are made from organic materials, but it just never been a big thing for me. I did go out to see the Rotary float when it came on. It was very pretty. When we moved to Mesquite we had contemplated making a trek over to Pasadena to see it live, but like so many other things we contemplated we did not make it.
I know Jennifer will be pulling for Coach Khaki Pants and the Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl today. She was not a big Lord Saban fan. He certainly was not at the level of dislike as Jimbo Fisher but he was not high on her list of favorite coaches. She always got a chuckle when the guys on "Full Ride" would play the Imperial March and call him Lord Saban when they would discuss him.
Sorry to our many Texas friends but she will be pulling for the Washington Huskies to win that semifinal game. It would be nice for our niece Hannah to have a Michigan vs Washington matchup. She will be a Alumni of both schools (she is currently at Michigan) and would be interesting to see who she would be pulling for.
The Galbavy's went skiing yesterday at Great Divide and were pretty disappointed. The runs were very icy because most of the snow is man made. So the skiing was pretty difficult. Case told us his legs and butt hurt this morning. Having not skied for over a year, his leg muscles were not used to the workout he got yesterday. I think his butt was hurting from a few spills he took. He is young so will probably be back to normal this afternoon. It would probably take me a month to get the muscles feeling normal.
Anyway it will be a football watching and junk food eating day to kick of 2024. Hope everyone has a good day.
