Halloween

It was a busy Halloween week. Spent several days helping my fellow Rotarians decorate our haunted house for the Eureka Casino Shreek-reeka event on Thursday night. Our theme was a haunted nursing home (Dead End Nursing Home). I had to scramble to come up with a costume idea. I found a cheaper scary mask at Walmart and then dressed up in a dress shirt, pants and tie with a stethoscope around my neck. I sat in a chair that was kind of hidden around a corner and played like I was a dummy (yes I know not a big stretch). I had put on some white latex gloves so they could not tell if I was real or not. It was pretty funny watching people. They would be looking and wondering if I was real or not. I had a couple of people that were reaching out to touch me and I would move and growl at them and they would damn near jump out of their skin. I had one lady say she peed herself. So that part was fun. It was very warm though and that cheap plastic mask got uncomfortable after 3 hours of doing this. We had some really little kids come through and I would just wave at them versus scaring them. However anyone that looked over 8 years old I would try to scare.
We also had a visit from our Rotary District governor and governor elect. Our club also sponsored this month’s Chamber of Commerce luncheon. The District Governor spoke at the luncheon, but the main speaker was the CEO of Safenest, which is the organization that help abused/battered women get themselves and their kids (if applicable) out of those situations. I still have most of Jennifer’s clothes, I think I will get in touch with Safenest local rep and donate a bunch of them to it. I know that she would be happy with them going to that type effort. She used to make regular clothing and monetary donations to the “Dress for Success” program when we were working.
As I was sitting in the chair at the haunted house and between scares I got to reminiscing about past Halloweens. Jennifer and I had one Halloween in Vegas that was a lot of fun, we had some great laughs. We just wanted to take a trip to Vegas and did not think about it being Halloween. Our flight got into Vegas early Halloween morning. We could not check into our hotel (Planet Hollywood) so we dropped our bags with the concierge and then went to Starbucks to get a coffee (me) and a Chai Tea Latte (Jennifer) and we walked out of the hotel onto the Vegas strip. Actually we were a level above the strip and we could watch people walking up and down the strip. Jennifer and I both loved to people watch. Well Halloween in Vegas is prime people watching. So we are sitting there drinking our drinks and here come this guy tromping down the street. He is dressed up as a sexy devil in this red lace teddy type outfit with high heels and little devil horns. Now this guy is not a small guy and he is one of the hairiest individuals I have ever seen. It was a like a Sasquatch in a teddy. Jennifer and I looked at each other and were both trying to not break down laughing and just said it was going to be a fun day and it was. To this day, in my mind I can see that guy as clear as the day that it happened.
Then in 2023 I met my friend Michael down in Vegas and we actually dressed up and went out on the strip and also down to Freemont street. He dressed up as Elvis and I dressed up as Colonel Parker. We had a grand time and consumed way to many adult beverages. That was a Halloween I
will never forget. We had so many people take pictures with us and there were some hysterical costumes.
This year my friend Randy and I went up to St George and played some golf. I had a decent front nine, but collapsed on the back nine, especially on the last two holes, but it still was a fun time.
Hopefully this week will be a little quieter and I can get back into my regular routine. Yesterday our Rotary club picked up trash on a section of road that we are responsible for. Only three of us showed up, but we got it done and picked up three large bags of trash. Usually we find something that is kind of surprising. This time it was pretty tame.
I came home and was able to catch the last few minutes of both the Cat and Griz game. They both won big. Then Andy contacted me to see if wanted to go play some Cornhole. So I went up and did that. I was pretty rusty, but got a little better as we played.
This morning I went up and played some Pickleball and will go play some Bocce this evening. We sure have been having some beautiful weather and that makes everything more enjoyable..
My iPad is about to die, so I better call it good for today.
