Disc Golf

A hobby Jennifer and I took up during the pandemic was disc golf. We were lucky there was a nine hole disc golf course that was close to our house. Our nephew Mike Benner is a big disc golfer and his enthusiasm about the sport got Jennifer intrigued. So she decided we should give it a try. I had played a couple of times in the past, but Jennifer had never done it.
So we started researching it and found out there was a couple of disc golf courses near us. So Jennifer found a starter set of disc golf disc’s on Amazon and we ordered two sets and we started going to the course that was closest to our house.
We quickly learned that we truly sucked at playing. However, we were having fun, had some good laughs, lots of cussing and we were getting out of the house. So we continued to go play. We got slightly better as we played more but there was never any danger of either of us turning Pro.

This was one day where we both were having a fun time, and took a rare selfie.
As we played the course we began to give each hole our own Nick names. About six months into playing they did some upgrades to the course and changed the layout of a couple of holes. We did like a couple of changes, but also did not like a couple. As the world began to open back up, we would stop at a little ice cream store and have a cone on our way home.
This course was a perfect course for beginners. It was fairly open and there was very few chances to lose a disc. I did come close one time when I stuck a disc way up in a big tree. However, we had a nice wind storm that came up the night after we played and it blew my disc out of the tree and I got it back the next day.
The we bought two more sets of discs for our trailer and planned to play at a couple of courses up here in Butte. Well we quickly found out the courses up here were way more difficult with lots more danger of losing a disc (although we never did) and a lot harder hiking between holes.
One disappointment about Mesquite, is that it does not have any disc golf courses, so our discs have been collecting dust since we left San Antonio. I think there is a course in Overton, NV and I may venture out one day to check it out when I get back home. I know if I do, it will trigger some memories and tears, because I will want her there with me.
What triggered this post is that I recently clicked on a face book post that involved Disc Golf and of course now my feed is getting tons of disc golf related posts and videos. Some of these have triggered some tears and memories, but that is OK. They are good memories.
Well enough for today. I need to do a few things before we head over to East Helena to watch Heath play his first official soccer game of the season. It will be tough sledding as they are playing Stevensville, which is probably the best team in Class A soccer. Last year they got “mercy ruled” in the first half, so it was a short game.
