D-Day Remembrance

On the infamous Queen hat photo trip, we also visited the Normandy region. We walked on Omaha beach and visited the American cemetery. Here and the Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor were two of the most somber and humbling places Jennifer and I were fortunate enough to visit.

We visited about a month before the anniversary of the invasion, but the weather was very similar to what the landing forces faced. It was unreal seeing these places and envisioning the horrors and challenges that these men faced on that fateful day. It is really amazing that they persevered.

The miles of white crosses at the American cemetery was just breathtaking and made you realize how much sacrifice was made so that we can enjoy the life we do today. They have a exhibit of a beach with a rifle stuck into the beach with its bayonet and a helmet resting on the top. It is in a glass case and if that does not bring a tears to your eyes, then you are not human.

We also visited Ste-Mere-Eglise. We saw the paratrooper stuck on the Chapel in the village and the stain glass window dedicated to the US 101st airborne. This is the only place I have visited in France where the citizens were so thankful to the United States for liberating them from the Nazi’s.

I feel blessed that Jennifer and I were able to visit these locations and get to see in person the sacrifices made by others for us.

It just sickens me to see our country having assholes like the orange messiah with his rhetoric and actions making these sacrifices seem meaningless. I only hope that on November 5 the asshole is kicked to the curb like he should be.

Today, Jeanne, Rob and I will be traveling to Missoula to celebrate our financial advisor Tom Wozniak’s retirement. It looks like it is going to be a nice day weather wise.

Well I better get going so I am not late. I hate being late.
