Beautiful But Tough Day

Yesterday was another busy day. Got up at 4:15 am to take my sister Colleen to the airport. Thankfully she got home with out any problems and she even recovered a jacket that she had walked off and forgot at a wine bar in the Denver airport on her trip up. It was a brand new jacket that she had not even worn yet. So was happy for her that she got it back.

After I dropped her off I grabbed some breakfast at Mickey D's and brought that home. Did a few things at the ranch and jumped in shower and back into town.

I am going to be leaving my truck up here since I don't need two cars in Mesquite, so I decided to put a battery disconnect switch in my truck so the battery doesn't go dead while it is sitting in the barn so I went and purchased one of those. Then ran to the cemetery and put a Veterans Medallion on Jennifer's parents headstone.

While we were putting out flowers for Memorial Day, we noticed these veteran medallions on several people's graves and were wondering why Mick did not have one. We got the medallion (thanks to my sister Cindy) the day of Jennifer's service. Cindy had asked Kenny at the cemetery how we went about getting one for Mick. Mick was a decorated (Bronze Star and Purple Heart) US Army Veteran from World War II. Kenny went to his truck and came back with a medallion. Anyway, up until yesterday the weather had been too crappy (cold wet days) to put it on.

Kenny also told us since Mick was a decorated veteran he was also eligible for a plaque. Jennifer's sister Janice is going to look into that with the VA.

I also went to Jennifer's grave and had a tearful but nice chat with her. I said a prayer and asked the Lady of the Rockies to look out for her for me. The flowers from her service were still there so I tidied those up some and took a quick photo. Her actual grave is hard to see in the photo but is below the vase of roses. I know it kind of looks like I was taking a photo of our new neighbor Shirley Schwatzendruber.

Then I called my in-laws Jeanne and Rob and asked if I could swing by and use their restroom to change my clothes before I headed to the MT Tech football game. I had a very nice dinner with Jeanne and Rob the night before. So swung by changed my clothes and had a cup of coffee with them and we worked on solving some of the worlds problems before I headed out.

Then off to Tech to watch the game. It was a absolutely beautiful Montana Fall day for a football game. I attended with my childhood friend and best man CD Holter and another highschool friend of ours Joe McGrath came up and joined us just before the game. We had a good time and enjoyed the day watching the game and visiting.

Unfortunately it was a tough football day. Most of the teams I was pulling for lost. Tech lost, Notre Dame lost, Texas lost (I was only pulling for them because the Benner and Paulson clan was pulling for OU and someone had to make it a little interesting). The U of M Grizzlies won, but by the hair of their chinny chin chins.

Then I went and got us some WOP chops from the Freeway bar for dinner and back out to the ranch. I got the battery disconnect installed on my truck and did some prep work for installing the cover on our trailer. CD and his son Cade are going to come out today and help me get that on.

Then did a couple of things my Mom wanted done before I leave and finally hit the hay. Today will be another busy day as I work to get a few more things done before I fly out tomorrow afternoon. Jeanne and Rob were kind enough to offer to come pick me up and take me to the airport and our friends Margot and Allen have graciously agreed to come pick me up in St George and take me back to Mesquite. Thank God for friends.

I will be honest, I am ready to get back to Mesquite and to my own bed.

It is going to be pretty hectic when I get back. My Rotary Club is going to be having its 16th annual fundraising Golf tournament on Oct 14. Our club is small and we need all hands on deck to pull it off. So I won't be playing in it but I will be helping in as many ways as possible. We also have our monthly used book sale so will be helping with that.

On the 16&17 I will be hopefully be having the tile backsplash installed in the kitchen. There will be hell to pay and some asses chewed on if that does not happen this time.

Well let's see what today brings and hopefully I get everything accomplished before leaving tomorrow. It is going to be very tough leaving, but I will get through it.
