A Pretty Good Ranch Hand.

For some reason the photo below popped up on my phone today, it made me both chuckle and cry. It is from August 2022.

When we got married in 1989 Jennifer was not real keen on helping with stuff around the ranch. She would come out and be with us, but she was not real big on jumping in and getting her hands or clothes dirty.

By 2022 she was an old hand and was getting dirty with the best of us! In 2022 she helped build a bridge across the creek up in the field and in the photo below she is helping cut firewood for the wood shed. She was running the cutting table and I was catching the pieces and throwing them in the truck to go to the wood shed. We worked our butts off that summer, but the bridge and wood cutting were the two big projects.

Usually we would have a big group of guys come out and we would cut the firewood. In 2022 they did not need that much firewood in the shed, because they had installed a propane furnace and they were not heating the house with the wood furnace any more. So Jennifer and I cut what they needed to fill the shed. When we had the wood cutting crews Jennifer was usually at the wood shed and would be on the throwing crew. They tossed the cut pieces into the wood shed. She was a pretty good hand and held her own.

It made me chuckle because of how much she had changed over the years regarding work around the ranch, but it also made me cry because she will no longer be doing things like this with me.

Yesterday I picked up our 2 house plants from our friends Sheri and Tony. They had babysat them while I was up in Butte. I introduced Sheri to Topo Chico mineral water and she likes it.

Yesterday when I was at Walmart there were three cases of Topo Chico on the shelf. This is like winning the lottery in Mesquite. So I bought two of them. If I had more storage I would have bought all three. Anyway I took one case to Sheri as a small token of appreciation for her and Tony babysitting the plants. Thank you Sheri and Tony.

Got my haircut today and feel better. This afternoon I think I will make a tomato soup cake. Don't know why I just got the hankering to do it.

Well enough for today. I got get my Betty Crocker on!
